ACTIVE AUTOWERKE EARNS GRUELING ‘ONE LAP OF AMERICA’
PODIUM FINISH WITH A BMW E46 M3 ON STOPTECH BRAKES
Los Angeles (May 2009) – The Active Autowerke BMW E46 M3 claimed third place overall and first place in its class at this year’s grueling 5,000 mile Tire Rack One Lap of America. The challenge also saw Team Iron Butt place 8 th overall on StopTech Brakes with an Audi S4. StopTech is Centric Parts’ ultra performance pision ( www.centricparts.com) and a leading innovator of world-class brake components and systems for production-based racing cars and high performance vehicles on the street and track.
“StopTech has had a very successful season on the track so far, including victories at Long Beach Grand Prix and Laguna Seca,” noted Dan Lelchuk, President of Centric Parts. “But perhaps no single event this year has been a bigger example of our hard core commitment to performance and quality than seeing Active Autowerke take their BMW to the One Lap of America podium on StopTech brakes.”
The Tire Rack One Lap of America is the toughest 8 days of racing in the country, featuring the fastest street legal cars on America's most challenging racetracks. It’s a nearly twenty-four hours a day driving challenge for over 60 teams with competition taking place as time trials on race tracks throughout the country. Although scoring is based on performance at the race tracks, the vehicles and their drivers must survive over 5,000 miles of driving in between. The race has had various formats since the 70’s but has existed in its current for since 1992.
“The brakes worked really well and enabled driver Catesby Jones to pe deep into the corners before applying the brakes,” said Mike Hugh, President of Active Autowerke. “This enabled the Active BMW to make up time and help gain valuable points.”
Team Iron Butt entered the competition with an Audi S4 on StopTech brakes and came in 8 th overall. “The StopTech brakes worked beautifully, especially at Daytona and Sebring, where the needle on the speedometer tends to drift into a range that’s seldom, if ever, seen,” noted Team Iron Butt Racing driver Michael Babcock.
