TURNER MOTORSPORT MAKES RACING HISTORY WITH BMW ON STOPTECH BRAKES AT LAGUNA SECA RACEWAY
Los Angeles (May 21, 2009) - Turner Motorsport made history this weekend as the first E90 chassis BMW to win in Grand Am racing. In only its fourth racing appearance ever, the Turner Motorsport ST class BMW E90 328i claimed the checkered flag at Round 4 of the Grand-Am KONI Challenge at Laguna Seca Raceway on StopTech brakes.
Veteran Turner driver Don Salama bested all during the qualifying round to earn a pole position start. With that start, Salama kept his E90 in the lead pack with a nearly perfect session before making a carefully planned pit-stop. Salama then handed the car off to team owner and co-driver Will Turner, who engaged in several exciting duels on his way back to the lead. The final and most exciting pass came during the last lap of the race, passing a challenging Mazda for Turner Motorsport's first ST win of the season. Turner also turned the fastest lap of the day for the ST class.
The victory added to Team StopTech's successful "podium or pole-position" season. Team StopTech, which is itself not an actual race team, consists of the select production based race cars from the Tri-Point Motorsports, GMG Racing and Turner Motorsport teams competing on StopTech performance brakes in the Grand-Am Koni Sports Car Challenge Series and the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Series. Recent victories include James Sofronas guiding his Porsche GT3 to victory for GMG Racing on StopTech brakes at the Toyota Long Beach Grand Prix and Jason Saini taking a first place for Tri-Point Motorsports, at the SPEED World Challenge Touring Car round in New Jersey with his StopTech-equipped MAZDA6.
